Timber Floors

At JK Floorheating, we specialise in retrofitting warm water underfloor heating (UFH) systems into various floor constructions, including timber floors. Our innovative approach ensures minimal floor build-up, making it ideal for both renovations and new builds.

Preparing Timber Floors for In-Ground UFH

Timber floors, particularly suspended timber constructions, require a stable and thermally conductive surface for effective UFH installation. To achieve this, we apply a layer of gypsum fibre board, known as ScreedPlank, directly onto the existing timber subfloor. This method provides a solid base for routing heating channels without significantly increasing floor height.

Advantages of Using ScreedPlank

  • Minimal Floor Build-Up: ScreedPlank adds only a slight increase in floor height, preserving room proportions and avoiding the need to adjust doors or skirting boards.
  • Efficient Heat Distribution: The gypsum fibre composition ensures excellent thermal conductivity, allowing heat to spread evenly across the floor surface.
  • Quick Installation: Our patented floorgrinding technology enables us to cut precise channels into the ScreedPlank swiftly, facilitating rapid installation of the heating pipes.

Compatible Gypsum Fibre Boards

There are several compatible gypsum fibre board options available for use with our ScreedPlank underfloor heating systems, with our preferred solution being Thermal Economics gypsum fibre boards. These boards provide excellent heat conductivity and even heat distribution across the floor surface, helping to maximise system efficiency and comfort.

Thermal Economics boards offer a robust, high-density flooring solution that works exceptionally well with low-profile underfloor heating installations. Their thermal performance helps ensure a fast system response time while maintaining a stable and durable floor structure.

Where floor build-up is a concern, Thermal Economics boards can also be incorporated into our minimal-height solutions, helping to reduce overall floor depth while still delivering excellent heating performance.

Minimal Height Solution

Our standard timber floor solution uses gypsum fibre boards installed over the existing timber floor deck, providing a stable surface for the underfloor heating system while keeping floor build-up to a minimum.

Where the available floor height is particularly restricted, another solution is to remove the existing floor deck and inlay between the timber joists (typically carried out by the homeowner’s builder or contractor). By lowering the supporting floor deck in this way, the gypsum fibre boards can then be installed on top, significantly reducing the overall floor build-up compared with a standard overlay installation.

This method helps retain existing floor levels, minimise threshold issues, and reduce the need for alterations to doors, skirting boards, and adjoining floor finishes.

Why Choose JK Floorheating for Timber Floors?
